FREDERICK MARSCHNER
LCSW-R, CASAC

"The variety of employment opportunities that I have been fortunate enough to obtain have given me a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw from which I use to assist my clients in achieving their goals."

Frederick is a licensed Clinical Social worker (LCSW-R) and Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), with over 19 years of mental health and addictions counseling experience obtained through working with individuals, couples, families and groups in a variety of inpatient, residential, and outpatient settings.

Although he has been known to help people and be a great listener pretty much his whole life, Frederick's  professional career began in 1997 when he completed his Masters Degree in Social Work from the University at Buffalo. He also holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology, Bachelors in Music Performance (Classical Guitar) and Associates in Applied Science (Music).

Frederick's exposure to trained counseling began with his volunteer work through Crisis Services of Erie County in the early 1990s. He was trained as a phone counselor and volunteered in the phone counseling program for several years. He also volunteered for several years at Buffalo General’s MICAID program in which he was involved with a research project and started sitting in and eventually co-facilitating groups. His internships were completed through Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers residential program and at Monsignor Carr Institute.

Having completed his degrees, Frederick moved to Rochester to take a job as a manger of a house in an addictions residential program. The house he managed was considered a special needs house in which people would also have various co-occurring illnesses such as mental illness, personality disorders, and physical health issues to include cancer and HIV. After spending the better part of a year in this position, Frederick wanted to have more formal counseling experience. He began searching and found a position working for Unity Health System as a Chemical Dependency Counselor at Park Ridge Chemical Dependency and Per Diem as a Psychiatric Assignment Officer in the St. Mary’s Psychiatric Emergency Department.

His career as a Clinical Social Worker has had many twists and turns. He had gained a fondness for Buffalo while attending school at the University at Buffalo. Through his various employment opportunities, he worked his way back to this great city. After leaving Park Ridge, Frederick has had outstanding opportunities to work for the Office of Mental Health inside the Attica Correctional Facility, as a Social Work supervisor for the Designated AIDS center for Western New York at Erie County Medical Center, Per Diem as a therapist for Child and Family Services, and full and part time for Monsignor Carr Institute providing mental health and substance abuse counseling. His most recent full time experience has come from his employment at the Buffalo Psychiatric Center where he worked as a Psychiatric Social Worker on the Inpatient Admissions Unit.
